Our users have free choice over which device they use to open a SelfGuide instruction, and it's up to us to support their choice. With this release, an updated Instruction viewer is available which responds to the screen size, including smaller screens such as on mobile devices.
Instructions in SelfGuide are often shared using a URL, for example via e-mail, posted on the intranet, in chat messages and in third party applications. It's quite common behavior to visit such a shared link using a mobile device (with a smaller screen) and open the SelfGuide instruction using the URL. Starting with this release, the Instruction viewer responds to the available screen size and adjusts the window accordingly to get a working user interface on smaller screens. No matter if the device is a mobile phone, a tablet or a small laptop or if the screen is in portrait or landscape mode.
As a finishing touch, swipe gesture support has been added to make it more intuitive to navigate through an instruction when a device has a touch screen.
Several common windows (like the login and home window) have been made responsive too, so navigation outside the Instruction viewer does not directly lead to a broken user interface. Using SelfGuide on devices with a smaller screen will be further improved in upcoming releases.
The icons of the step actions in the Instruction viewer and Instruction editor have been replaced with more intuitive icons.
Instructions can be labeled with one or several applications to provide users insight about the instruction content without the need to open the instruction. For a long list of common applications, icons are available in SelfGuide, while in past versions custom added applications displayed a generic icon. We have made two changes to this functionality:
These changes help in several ways:
A new version of the SelfGuide Recorder is available and can be downloaded at https://www.selfguide.com/downloads. The new version of the Recorder contains several improvements to boost the upload performance and lower the footprint while creating a recording.
Updating the Recorder is not mandatory but we do strongly advise to update all installations to get a better experience.
Context menus are now always on top of other visual elements and will position better when working near the border of an element or the entire screen. This change solves several scenarios where the context menu was not visible well enough to actually see the available options.
