18 October - Notify about maintenance on save

This article is from before the rebranding to SelfGuide. Text and images can include the old product name ProductivityPerformer or its abbreviation PP.

Following up on the maintenance page added a few release ago, a maintenance modal has been added which will be shown when saving changes while our service is unavailable. This prevents loss of work when not able to save due too maintenance being performed. Read more about this and other changes below.

Maintenance modal on save

There is a small chance a save action is performed while the backend of SelfGuide is being updated or restarted, returning a 503 error. With this release, this error is handled correctly by showing a maintenance modal to notify the editor about the situation. The modal can be closed, outstanding changes are kept and the editor is able to reperform the save action. This behavior is active in several places like the AWI editor, User Guide editor, Course editor and unsaved changes modal.

Step description deprecated

The step description is used to add contextual information to a step, for example an explanation or a relevant corporate policy. This field has been available from the beginning of SelfGuide and is still often used, however a better option is available. To help improve the content created by editors, we have chosen to deprecate the step description functionality and remove the field later this year. Read more about the reason and timeline in the knowledge base.

In this release, a few things are changed:

  • The notification towards the editor has been made more prominent using a warning styling
  • A warning sign will be shown in the header as long as one or more steps in the AWI contain a step description
  • The notification message has been updated with the date the step description is removed from the AWI Viewer

The release deployed in the week of 12 December 2022 will remove the step description for the user.

List view (Preview)

The list view in the AWI Library has been improved by adding sort functionality. By default, the list is sorted ascending on the title of the AWI. An editor has the option to click the header of the column to choose a different sorting, for example on the last modified date column to see the last modified AWIs.

With this improvement, all columns are sortable (ascending and descending) and the current sort is visualized in the column header by a sort icon.

List view is an upcoming feature, if you are interested and want to know more, feel free to contact gert.kienhuis@selfguide.com.
